Hardcore Gamers are Seen as Unimportant

Posted on Tuesday September 30th, 2008 at 8:08am by ChrisRick

Apparently according to research for an article written by Chris Morris at Forbes, hardcore gamers are unimportant. In fact he goes so far as to almost call us selfish, unrealistic megalomaniacs that argue about non-important issues.

It's easy to dismiss the most avid gamers as a vocal minority. They obsess over games before they're released and then often savagely rip apart the very thing they were so eagerly anticipating. They argue passionately about the most minor of details, and they demand to be catered to by developers.

So the most avid of gamers are rabid fanboys who savagely attack minor details. If that's the case I imagine his email box is already filling up at present with rabid hate mail from all the megalomaniacal gamers... Talk about supporting a negative stereotype and not really.

He also goes on to say that indie developers are the ones who care about the hardcore gamers and the big houses care about the casual gamers. So EA isn't making any titles for hardcore gamers? Titles like Madden and FIFA don't sell millions of copies?

The article seems incomplete to me. Like he asked leading questions to get the responses he wanted and not to actually inform us all about something.

Read the full thing over at Forbes and tell me what you think here.
